Our Faith Makes Us Whole By Pastor Phillip Lee

Some would argue that freedom from homosexuality is an impossibility. However, I believe that personal opinion, notion or theory to be a contradiction of Scripture. By being set free completely, I mean a person can be set free from the activity and the evil desires of this sin. As a result, that person would be void of any homosexual manifestations and completely in touch with his or her divinely created design of heterosexuality. This, I believe, is the express will of God the Father and it is entirely possible. "Let God be true and every man a liar" (Romans 3:4).

Every man and woman is created heterosexual. In truth, that is who we are. Homosexuality presents a deception and an unreality about human sexuality and the created design of God. While I would certainly agree that we will always sin as long as we remain in the flesh, it does not have to be addictive, idolatrous, deceptive and consuming to the point that unreal levels of evil desires stand against God's truth. Men and women can be completely free of homosexuality, its confusion and torment.

It is our faith that makes us well and whole. The gospels make a very clear distinction between a person being cured versus being made whole. Any individual desiring to be made whole must enter into a faith relationship with Christ. This Scriptural fact is best illustrated in the story of the cleansing of the ten lepers (Luke 17:11-19). The love and compassion of Jesus is more than enough to restore and deliver just as His very same love once created them.

Clearly, I remember the divinely appointed time for me to receive Christ and begin a journey to wholeness. The reprieve I received from Christ enabling me to come back to my senses and take stock of my desperate condition of same-gender attraction was ultimately an invitation and an intervention from Christ to be made whole. As was the case of the ten lepers - one came back and entered into a faith relationship with Jesus. Bowing down to worship Jesus is always an indication of a decision. Jesus said to the one leper who came back, "Your faith has made you well." In other words, ten were cured, but only one was made well or made whole. The cure became an invitation to be made whole. Admittedly, my journey continues.

Today, tragically, there are those teaching that people are never set free from the evil desires of same-gender attraction and that they can only expect to stop the activity and must always live with the desires. If this misguided notion is to be embraced as fact, does this mean that those promoting such contradiction of Scripture do not believe what Jesus said about looking on a person with lust being sin, or do they believe that homosexual desires can never be removed? If something is clearly defined by Scripture as sin, we are to turn form it completely and not live in ungodly compromise.

As a Christian, meaning I am a follower of Jesus Christ and all of His teachings, I must embrace the totality of Scripture which includes "Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring Word of God" (1 Peter 1:22-23). Clearly, we must obey the truth in order to be purified and ultimately made whole. A Christian has been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable seed from God the Father through His living word.

I believe the Gospels are abundantly clear by illustrating that any person described as being made well occurred only if they had chosen to connect themselves to God through a commitment. Every Christian, regardless of what issue(s) they may be working through, is purified and ultimately made whole by walking in the light and by confessing our sins. "God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in darkness, we life and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin" (1John 1:5-7).

I am comforted by the truth and numerous examples of Christ in that He always has an eternal goal; specifically, the salvation and the making a person whole. Indeed, that is a process. Giving up the entire context of homosexuality, means I no long keep records of how long it has been since I last fell or even looked on someone to lust after them. Frankly, I do not believe God desires records of falls or even victories, but a complete change of heart so that we love what He loves and hate what he hates.

Have we possibly arrived at the notion that being good is a losing proposition? The wonderful and glorious promise remains and shall forever be that there is an end to homosexual desire if we yield to God's truth and not the opinion of man.

Guyana, South America Bound! By Louis Steers

On February 5th, Pastor Phillip will once again depart for Guyana, South America. As many of your know, His Way Out Ministries partners with Operation Restoration, a local Guyanese ministry dedicated to promoting and teaching sexual purity in Christ Jesus. In preparation for Pastor Phillip's two-week Guyana itinerary, Phyllis Jordan and Jennifer Flatts, the co-leaders of Operation Restoration, have been earnestly preparing for a two-day city-wide conference titled Homosexuality and the Reality of Change that will be held in Georgetown, Guyana's capital. Pastor Marlon Hestick, President of the Wesleyan Bible University, has been preparing students, pastors and individuals entering into ministry, for Pastor Phillip's arrival as His Way Out Ministries will once again have the wonderful privilege of teaching a five-night series at the university designed to equip and educate those in attendance on the complexities of same-gender attraction.

Also, Operation Restoration (OR) has arranged several television and radio opportunities enabling the message of hope and freedom from homosexuality to be aired throughout Guyana. Three mornings will be spent at the Operation Restoration office facilitating training for OR leadership, pastors and church leadership on How to Facilitate Support Groups for both men and women struggling with same-gender attraction. Ultimately, Pastor Phillip will spend two days in a community called New Amsterdam, visiting friends and partners in ministry, Rev. Lucius and Esther Bruyning, founders and directors of the Alpha Children's Home, a home for children impacted by HIV/AIDS.

This will be Pastor Phillip's seventeenth journey to Guyana. Many years ago, God placed Guyana on Pastor Phillip's heart as it remains today. Please join me in praying for him and the many open doors God has provided to further His Kingdom. To God be the glory!

Please join us on Saturday, February 5, 2008 from 9am to 11am as we welcome our very special guest speaker, Mike Evans, Founder and Director of Wholeness Ministries. In 1989 Mike founded Wholeness Ministries, a ministry whose purpose is to train and equip believers to minister to those in need of physical, spiritual or emotional healing. Mike has shown numerous ministries and churches how to establish in-house prayer team ministries. Mike and his team have taught and ministered healing in Northern Ireland, England, Canada, Puerto Rico, Hungary, India and extensively throughout the United States.

Mike, along with a team, has written and published "Learning To Do What Jesus Did," a practical, hands-on training manual demonstrating how to pray for physical, emotional and spiritual healing. Never Water Down the Word of God By Darren Thompson

Excerpt from Reaching Gay Youth

Do not think we have to defend or apologize for what Scripture has clearly said about purity nor be enticed to debate or argue with the individual. An exchange of ideas does not necessitate a debate or an attempt to impose our beliefs on those who disagree. Recognize it's not really a struggle between "us and them"; it is between them and the Word of God. In fact, we all have to make the decision whether we are going to conform to God's commandments or disregard them. Speaking and standing with God's Word takes us out of the debate altogether. Keep in mind that the greater struggle is not between a teen and his or her sexual choices, but their denial of the authority of Scripture and the Lordship of Christ.

Paul's last letter, written to a young timid-prone pastor names Timothy, gives insight on approaching and ultimately reaching people who might resist us: The Lord's servant must not quarrel (2 Timothy 2:24), those who oppose him must be gently instructed (v.25) and proclaim the Word (4.2). Remember, we do not shame people for their sin. Once a youth knows our biblical conviction regarding homosexuality, our sharing can be takes to another level. Again, relating our own struggles and victories regarding our personal attempts at purity may circumvent an impasse if one should arise. Sharing our own struggles helps the young person maintain perspective and sheds light about the pain others live through while providing hope that his own personal obstacles can be overcome.

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS

AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.

We invite churches, companies, ministries, corporations, individuals, and the entire City of Bakersfield to join with us in caring. Offer your support by donating the below listed items.

Canned tuna Canned soups
Canned ravioli Canned pasta products, e.g.Spaghettio's
