Consequences of Sexual Sin By Pastor Phillip Lee

Maybe you've noticed that the Bible clearly distinguishes between behaviors and desires that are good and those that are evil. As a matter of fact, the word evil appears over four hundred times in the Bible, often to identify behavior that is contrary to God's will and plan for any life.

Clearly, the practice of homosexuality is so offensive to God that participation in it warranted death (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13) in the Holiness Code of the Old Testament and not inheriting the Kingdom of God in the New (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Scripture also offers in Isaiah 5:20 a clear caution - "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil..." No degree or any aspect of homosexuality is pleasing to God. Tragically, many pro-gay theologians attempt to communicate that only certain types of homosexual acts such as rape or prostitution are inappropriate (sinful) while defending monogamous homosexual relationships as acceptable to God. A persons emotional, sexual or relational desires and society's acceptability do not and never will determine homosexuality's moral status before God. Plainly, if every man, woman and child on the face of the planet were to declare homosexuality as good, it would still be wrong in the sight of God.

When we commit sexual sin, which is sin against our own body (Romans 8:10; 1 Corinthians 6:18), as well as sin against God, we bring negative consequences upon our soul and spirit as well. The Apostle Peter made this point in 1 Peter 2:11, when he pleaded: "I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world; to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul."

Volumes could be written on the emotional damage caused by sexual sin. When anyone engages in intimate sexual behavior with someone, a bond occurs with that person on a deep emotional and spiritual level - a bond that will follow that person into the next relationship they have, so that they will never be completely free to give their self to another. There will always be that comparing, and that emotional pull...a kind of adulterous enticement back to the previous lover.

The second and even more serious consequence of sexual sin is the dividing wall that it creates between our spirit and God's. God doesn't create the dividing wall, our sinful behavior does, and the relationship with God that we were created to develop and mature as the central purpose for our life is stopped in its tracks. Because of our rebellious attitude and disobedience, we set ourselves adrift from the One who loves us most, who created us, and who has a plan that He wants to institute for our lives. Only a turning from and renouncement of that sinful behavior, and a reliance on Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, can ever begin to repair the damage that we have possibly done.

Homosexuality is a disorder presenting an illusion of love, affection, friendship, acceptance and most of all...freedom. And, the evil desire of homosexuality is not present in every human, as Alfred Kinsey and others have attempted to present as fact and truth. Tragically, many persons who do not understand the complexities of homosexuality and the numerous contributing factors to homosexuality, are tricked into accepting and embracing their issue with same-gender attraction. Far too many, not knowing the origins of homosexuality, falsely buy into the lie that they were born homosexual.

I remain convinced that a person can be set free from the activity and the evil desires of homosexuality thereby enabling that person to be in touch with his or her created design of heterosexuality. However, some people would argue that this is not possible because we will always sin as long as we are in the flesh. While I agree that we will always sin as long as we are in the flesh, it does not have to be idolatrous, deceptive, addictive or unreal levels of evil desires that stand against God's truth. It is entirely possible to be set free from homosexuality and its confusion.

If you or someone you love is in a battle with same-gender attraction, there is hope! Our Lord never identifies anyone as evil unless the person is sold out to doing evil with no remorse or repentance. God is merciful and abounding in love to those who have been sold into sin by their joining in with temptation. However, each person (by their own choice and exercising of their free will) must forsake ways that are contrary to God's will and plan for their life and submit to Him. God, who is rich in mercy, is willing to forgive and cleanse every and any evil desire from our hearts. But we must choose His ways above those ungodly desires that war against the Spirit of God. God's promise remains that there can be an end to homosexual desire of any type or degree if we yield to His truth.

We Need Your Support!

Today, confusion about sexuality, homosexuality in particular, is all too common. While, tragically and incorrectly, some say people are born homosexual, others say they are not. Thousands of people who were told they were homosexual have found the so-called gay life to be less than satisfying. People desire and deserve godly answers to their questions. You make it possible for us to bring the healing power of Jesus Christ to the many seeking a way out of homosexuality. Will you help us continue speaking His truth with love and integrity? Prayerfully Yours,

A Journey to Sexual and Relational Wholeness

On Saturday, April 8, 2006, our men's Time Out discipleship group will begin a new series titled Taking Back Ground. Turning our attention to such subjects as: Understanding Homosexuality, Knowing God in Our Struggles, and Embracing the Change Process, each lesson provides a biblical and personal approach to developing an intimate understanding of who we are in Christ. At His Way Out Ministries, we have found that it is not a method or program that brings about change, but a life-giving relationship with God. The new Time Out series offers a framework for the Holy Spirit to bring about that change. By faith we will set out to "take back" our true identities in Christ as His sons. The foundation, of who we are, that ground, then becomes a solid place for us to build for our futures - a future that reflects Christ's intent for our lives. We invite you to join with others who have gone before you, to experiencing the life-giving power of the love of Christ. Journey with us as week to be His disciples.

Time Out meets faithfully on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 9am to 11am. While there is no fee for the new series which will ultimately conclude in December 2006, registration is required and may be completed by calling our office at (661) 589-4262.

In Appreciation...

All of us at His Way Out Ministries express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the following churches and universities that invited HWOM during the month of March to share teaching and testimony. Each presentation focused on our belief that the Scriptures contain the final truth and authority concerning all matters of morality and present Jesus Christ as the one who has the power to release people from homosexuality.

Canyon Hills Assembly of God, Bakersfield, CA
Each Sunday during the entire month of March, HWOM had the wonderful opportunity of teaching and equipping the saints at Canyon Hills Assembly of God, with ministry tools and practical application on how to reach those bound by same-gender attraction.

Grace Assembly of God, Bakersfield, CA
On Sunday, March 5th, HWOM presented a message titled "A Christian Response to Homosexuality" which was more than well received by the congregation at Grace Assembly of God. Those in attendance expressed their sincere appreciation for the frank and detailed message which encouraged reaching to those bound by homosexuality with the transforming message of the Gospel of Christ.

Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA
During March, HWOM presented "Homosexuality and the Reality of Change" to graduate students and faculty at Azusa Pacific University. This was the fourth time HWOM had been invited to teach and share testimony at APU and numerous students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to ask questions about the complexities of homosexuality. HWOM is excited about returning to APU as an invitation has already been extended to return once again.

Vanguard University, Irvine, CA
During the last week in March, Pastor Phillip Lee had the privilege of sharing during each chapel service at Vanguard University. Numerous students expressed their appreciation for the transparent message of hope and transformation regarding homosexuality. With Vanguard University on the threshold of issuing so many individuals into ministry, the message of HWOM was overwhelmingly supported and appreciated.

Argument/Answer

Argument: I tried to change but I couldn't. Therefore, it must be true that God wants me gay.

Answer: First of all, unchangeable and acceptable or legitimate are not the same thing. For a Christian, the priority should always be whether or not something is right in and of itself, regardless of how hard the struggle may be. Homosexuals have and do change. It's pretty arrogant to assume that because you couldn't or didn't change that no one else can either.

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS

AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.

We invite churches, companies, ministries, corporations, individuals, and the entire City of Bakersfield to join with us in caring. Offer your support by donating the below listed items.

Canned ravioli Canned pasta products, e.g.Spaghettio's
