Welcome to His Way Out Ministries
January 2004 Highlights
Good News from Guyana!
In November of 2003, I completed my eight trip to Guyana, South America. This particular missionary trip required a three-week stay and was very unique for several reasons. First of all, it was the very first time I have ever journeyed to Guyana alone. During the past several years I have always been accompanied by a ministry team of two persons, four persons and on one particular trip, a team of twelve. However, this time I was convinced that I was to travel alone. One of the many, many things that I love about the Lord Jesus is that although He is a God of revelation, He is also a God of surprises.
After my arrival in Guyana and ultimately driving into Georgetown, the capital of Guyana, I was informed that I was scheduled for an hour long, live, teaching opportunity on a local television station that just happened to cover the entire country. Now, after you have been traveling for almost twenty-four hours and are a bit blurry eyed to say the least, this comes as quite a surprise. Especially, when the television show is scheduled to air first thing in the morning. I was coherent enough to remember being asked...You're ready aren't you? My response...Uh-huh! So, there I was first thing of the first morning, teaching for an hour...LIVE...on the subject of... Homosexuality and the Reality of Change. The hour flew by and the Holy Spirit was very gracious. Hallelujah and Amen!
Bright and early the next morning, I was off to New Amsterdam for a week stay. New Amsterdam is in an area known as Berbice and a community I have come to dearly love. Once again, there were surprises in store. I was fortunate to minister in several churches that I had numerous times in the past, but the Lord provided several new opportunities to share and teach about deliverance from homosexuality in many new communities as well. Frankly, everywhere I went (it didn't matter the church or denomination), the request was the same. "Please come and equip us for ministry to those struggling with same-gender attraction." And so it was throughout the villages of New Amsterdam, the Corentye, and Canjie. Ah yes, Canjie! Never will I forget swatting mosquitoes (they are as big as Volkswagens), while trying to teach. Frankly, by the time I was finished, I looked like one big lump. It's amazing how the mosquitoes in Guyana just seem to know when fresh meat has arrived. Are ya getting the picture here?
After completing my week in Berbice, it was time to head back to Georgetown. By the way, another wonderful surprise that the Lord supplied was the delightful family that hosted me for the week. The Marks Family could not have been more hospitable and our times of fellowship were the best. I am extremely grateful to them for their generosity.
My ten-day stay in Georgetown was to include several opportunities to teach and preach in various churches of various denominations. I remember very well the Sunday morning at the church in Vreen-En-Hoop, teaching about our true identity being in Christ Jesus, if one is a Christian. The presence of the Holy Spirit was incredible. Now, I know we are not to get all caught up in our feelings and emotions, however, the Holy Ghost goose bumps were a jumpin! Oh gimme a break and come to the party!
I had received an invitation from Pastor David Smith-Persaud, to minister at his church in Stewartville. I wonderful little community right next to the Atlantic Ocean. The ocean breeze was heaven sent due to Guyana being hot all of the time (Guyana sits right on the equator). When the humidity is one hundred percent most of the time, a breeze, any breeze is more than welcomed. We had two nights of meetings and to my surprise, on the second night, the ushers had to keep bringing in benches for the people who just kept coming. You know, it is so encouraging to be amongst people that want to educate themselves regarding ministry to the sexually and relationally broken. Their desire to learn was overwhelming. I had numerous opportunities to minister one-on-one with many individuals. To God be the glory!
Ultimately, it was time to center on three nights of meetings in Georgetown itself. The meetings had been scheduled well in advance and a church in the heart of Georgetown had invited me to conduct seminars on deliverance from homosexuality. Pastor Stewart, Senior Pastor of Bethel Gospel Hall, was most gracious and hosted the meetings. The first two nights included video presentations and teachings to an extremely well attended and very receptive group of men and women from various churches. I made the decision to reserve the third and final night for individuals, parents, friends, or any concerned individual that had a loved one, friend, co-worker, etc. involved in homosexuality to come and meet with me for one-on-one counseling. When I arrived at the church, and to my surprise, people were lined up and waiting. And so it went for the entire evening. Everyone waited so patiently and I was humbled by their desire for guidance to help their child, friend, neighbor, etc. Even Pastor Stewart was in awe due to the response and commented...We have much work to do.
Oh yes, another wonderful surprise that the Lord provided was my meeting with a Georgetown University student by the name of Joel. Last July, Joel was instrumental in leading the university campus to encourage and push for the legalization of homosexuality throughout Guyana. However, the Church rallied and the movement for legalization was brought to a halt. Praise the Lord! This occurred to the dismay of many local politicians pushing for acceptance as well.
Joel and I had a very matter-of-fact discussion regarding homosexuality and now the door of opportunity to debate the subject on the university campus is available and open. After all, shouldn't both sides be heard? The university debate will be included in my next trip to Guyana. Yeah God!
Guess what? The Lord provided yet another wonderful surprise by providing another television opportunity. This time, however, it was taped and not live. Hallelujah! For one hour, I was interviewed on the most commonly asked questions regarding the complexities of the homosexual behavior. The purpose for taping the show was for the advantage of airing the program over and over again throughout Guyana. Believe me, Jesus is getting major airtime.
Ultimately, my time in the Georgetown area concluded with ministering on a Sunday morning at the Lamaha Street Fellowship (a church that meets in a house). If you know anything of Guyanese homes, they are mostly built on stilts and some can be quite high. The purpose of building up is to enable the catching of a breeze and to eliminate the torrential downpours (which are very regular) from flooding their homes. A Guyanese custom is to remove ones shoes before entering. Now that I think about it, it was the first time I have ever preached in my stocking feet. Pretty cool, actually. Once again, the message of homosexuality and the reality of change was extremely well received and many people had questions after the completion of the church service.
As my trip to drew to completion, I could only thank God for His numerous, wonderful surprises and yet another opportunity to spread His Good News to a country that I have come to dearly love and adopt as my second home. And, yes, just as Pastor Stewart said...We still have much work to do. Frankly, our Guyanese brothers and sisters are already waiting for the return of His Way Out Ministries to continue teaching and training leaders to be more effective in reaching to those bound by same-gender attraction.
This was an awesome trip and I have only shared a few highlights of all that our God of surprises accomplished. To the many of you that contributed financially to this most recent journey in Guyana...God Bless You for your offerings, prayers, and tremendous words of encouragement. Together, we have and will continue to make a difference.
Gratefully Redeemed,
Pastor Phillip Lee

Speaking of Guyana...
On January 5th, my assistant, Darren Thompson will be departing for Guyana for a six-month stay. As many of you know, Darren and I have been praying about his serving in more of a long-term capacity as a missionary to the Guyanese people for sometime. After praying, waiting, seeking counsel and confirmation, an opportunity became available for Darren to serve a newly planted church in Stewartville, Guyana. Although Darren has been to Guyana with me on two separate occasions, this extended stay will be a challenge for him in several ways. In Darren's own words...I have never been more excited about joining what the Lord is doing in our world! Darren is truly an incredible youngman of God and his willingness to serve has personally blessed me over and over again. Please join me in praying for him and that our Lord will use him tremendously to further His Kingdom in Guyana. Frankly...I'm going to miss him big-time.

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS
AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.
We invite churches, companies, ministries, corporations, individuals, and the entire City of Bakersfield to join with us in caring. Offer your support by donating the below listed items.
