If Christians Work Together

I am convinced that God birthed, organized, equipped and continues to build His Church for the purpose of being the answer to many of life's problems. We, The Church, are to be a lifeline for those struggling with financial problems, sexual and relational brokenness, and most certainly ...health issues.

As the fight against the AIDS pandemic moves into its third decade, there is a growing consensus that public awareness campaigns, education, and condom distribution are simply not working to stop the disease. At the same time, most researchers believe the quest for an AIDS vaccine will take at least another ten years.

Experts agree that the answer to stopping the AIDS epidemic globally is not treatment, but prevention. They also agree that the best hope for prevention lies in changing human behavior. Never has the need and the opportunity been greater for the Christian community to take the lead in responding to this crisis with conviction and compassion.

Many local churches, missionary agencies, faith-based organizations, and Christian hospitals are already making a difference on the front lines of the crisis around the world. They teach and model the biblical principles of abstinence and marital fidelity. They offer comfort without condemnation to those living with HIV/AIDS. They provide loving care for multitudes of widows and orphans. Above all, they are called and equipped to meet the spiritual needs of men, women and children affected by this pandemic.

When the United Nations Security Council held its first meeting of the 21st Century, its concern was not nuclear war or international terrorism, but AIDS. The pandemic threatens not only millions of lives, but global security. Nations, communities, and families have lost the leaders of today and tomorrow. Healthcare systems have been overwhelmed, economies undermined, and schools robbed of both students and teachers.

AIDS has killed at least 22 million people worldwide, and another 36 million are living with AIDS or HIV infection. AIDS will kill at least a third of the young men and women in countries where it has its firmest hold and in some places up to two-thirds. Never before in history have death rates of this magnitude been seem among young adults of both sexes and from all walks of life.

This global tragedy cries out for a united Christian response. A response that demonstrates the compassion of Jesus Christ while it declares the life-changing principles of God's Word.

Through the Lord Jesus Christ there is hope. Christian ministries are uniquely qualified to bear witness to the world that the One who defeated death offers us the principles and the power to defeat HIV/AIDS. While it may not be easy, it can be done...if Christians work together.

In March of 2002, I attended the Prescription For Hope Conference in Washington, DC. The Prescription For Hope Conference was the vision of Rev. Franklin Graham, Chairman of Samaritan's Purse. I had the wonderful opportunity of speaking with Rev. Graham and several member of both Samaritan's Purse and the Billy Graham Association. We all agreed that God has given us biblical principles to halt the HIV infections and to bring hope to those whose lives have been devastated by this deadly disease.

It is my prayer and hope that when the history of the 21st Century is written, may it be said of The Church of Jesus Christ, that we showed the love of Christ by leading the way in defeating HIV/AIDS. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, we remain a receiving house for non-perishable food items. Donations assist those with HIV/AIDS maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. A flyer is enclosed in this newsletter detailing how we, The Church, can extend Christ's love and compassion to those combating HIV/AIDS.

Gratefully Redeemed,

Pastor Phillip Lee

Discipleship

From the very first day of His Way Out Ministries, we have proclaimed that it is not helpful to the homosexual person to either endorse his sin or reject him/her as a person. We, The Church, must provide the new way and the new lifestyle that will replace and push out the old sinful patterns of life.

On September 8, 2003, eight men entered into our "Moving On" Discipleship Series to help them resolve same-gender attractions. The men range in age from 22 years to 55 years old and come from various churches of various denominations. The series is designed to bring God's healing and redemptive power to those struggling with homosexuality and to come along side with love, compassion, encouragement and understanding. Our hope and prayer is that each man will grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Would you please join me in praying for these men? The path to change, although difficult, is worth it. Over the years I have personally witnessed God do incredible things in the lives of many, many men. Agree with me that each man may embrace more fully Christ's accomplished victory already won for him at the Cross. The series, which includes weekly two-hour meetings, will not conclude until December 29, 2003. Your prayers are greatly appreciated.

Living Out His Will in Our Lives

D.L. Moody once said, "I never saw a useful Christian who was not a student of the Bible. If a man neglects his Bible, he may pray and ask God to use him in His work, but God cannot make use of him, for there is not much for the Holy Ghost to work upon. We cannot overcome Satan with our feelings. The reason why some people have such bitter experiences is that they try to overcome...by their feelings and experiences. Christ overcame Satan by the Word."

Our sexual struggles and destructive lifestyles result from a broken relationship with God and others. The greatest good, then, becomes our pursuit of a relationship with Him. In pursuing a passionate relationship with God, our sexual struggles are pushed out of the center of our lives. Ultimately, the raw edge is taken off our sexual compulsion as we discover the rightful focus of worship: the Creator (Jesus Christ) and not the creature (men or women).

Join us on Saturday, November 1st as we turn our attention to...Living Out His Will in Our Lives. L.I.F.E. meets faithfully on the first Saturday of each month from 9am to 11am. The support group is available to...those choosing to leave the homosexual lifestyle, spouses, family members and friends of those struggling with homosexuality, and those desiring to learn about the complexities of homosexuality. L.I.F.E. (Living in Fellowship...Even in Tough Times!)

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS

AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.

We invite churches, companies, ministries, corporations, individuals, and the entire City of Bakersfield to join with us in caring. Offer your support by donating the below listed items.
