The month of April brought two wonderful opportunities to conduct leadership training for Teen Challenge and Wholeness Ministries. On Tuesday, April 23rd, I spent the day at Teen Challenge, Hawthorne, California, with numerous leaders from Teen Challenge. Responding to an invitation from Rev. Christie Luna, Teen Challenge/Womens Campus, Bakersfield, California, a day of training was scheduled to raise awareness, educate, and encourage Teen Challenge leadership to minister transformingly to those who struggle with homosexuality and lesbianism.
The training day was titled...A Christian Response To Homosexuality, and numerous areas of ministry were covered assisting those in attendance to be more effective in ministry to those who struggle with same-sex attractions. Some of the topics covered were...Biblical and Scientific Evidence for Change, How Long Does Change Take?, The Dynamics of Change, Recovery Is A Process, and much, much more.
Utilizing two video presentations, participants viewed and heard numerous testimonies of men and women who were once deeply ingrained in and habitually practicing homosexuality/lesbianism, but who experienced the powerful healing and restoration of God in their lives.
Thank You, Christie Luna and Rod Tidwell, Teen Challenge, Bakersfield, California, for your courage and vision in providing His Way Out Ministries the opportunity to share the truth of Scripture, the power of testimony and the dialogue of issues regarding homosexuality and lesbianism.
Saturday, April 27, 2002, marked the beginning of a series at Wholeness Ministries, titled...From Sexual Brokenness to Spiritual Wholeness. My good friend and partner in ministry, Mike Evans, Founder and Director of Wholeness Ministries, invited me to share and teach on subjects such as...What Is Sexual Addiction and How Does It Operate?, Root Sources For Improper Sexual
Development, Why People Remain in Sexual Sin and Bondage, and Rebuilding the Spiritual House. Some of the mentioned subjects will be shared on May 11th and May 25th, so its still not too late to take advantage of the classes.
Sex can be clinically addicting, like drugs or alcohol. If someone is already emotionally prone to addictive behavior, it stands to reason that among the possibilities for the expression of that need, is the over-use of sex. Healing for the sexual addict involves coming to terms with the sinful rebellion that lies deep within and which fuels his/her behavior. I am grateful to Mike Evans and Wholeness Ministries for their willingness, availability, and courage in reaching to those trapped by sexual addictions.
Teen Challenge and Wholeness Ministries...these front-line ministries are truly deserving of the Body of Christs full support.

A Friend Writes...
It has been a wonderful year. So many new discoveries about who I am and what God plans for my life. Through His Way Out Ministries, I have learned so many aspects of life and Gods creation. His Way Out Ministries willingness to openly share and be a vessel that delivers the truth to men like myself, is a true blessing. I am learning more each day to walk in and claim my true identity in Christ Jesus. Also, I realize that battles will come, but as I focus on the TRUTH, victory will be mine. I have come to understand that I am perfected in the One who created me and what the world says is a lie. I will change into His image and my image of the worlds will fade away. In Christ...L.S.

Guyana, South America Missionary Trip
June 2-10, 2002
Darren Thompson and I will be in Guyana, South America, spreading the Gospel, equipping the saints at the World Harvest Bible School in Georgetown, visiting the children at the Alpha Childrens Home in New Amsterdam, and sharing in various churches during our stay. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated. Please look for a full report of the trip on our return.

In Closing...
Everything at His Way Out Ministries is going great. Praise the Lord! Our Time Out Discipleship Series, Its About Life Program (for those impacted with AIDS), and Family Support Group are progressing extremely well. We continue to receive new inquiries from individuals desiring ministry and invitations from various churches to come and equip the saints for ministry to the sexually broken. HWOM continues to actively participate in Sebastian House...a confidential home in Bakersfield for individuals and families who are impacted by AIDS and are in need of shelter and care.

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS
AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.
We invite churches, companies, ministries, corporations, individuals, and the entire City of Bakersfield to join with us in caring. Offer your support by donating the below listed items.
