February 2002 Highlights

D.C. Bound!

Dear Friends,

Due to the overwhelming generosity of Gods people, I will be departing on Saturday, February 16, 2002, for Prescription For Hope, an international Christian conference on HIV/AIDS in Washington DC. Prescription For Hope is a call for the church worldwide, and church leaders in particular, to respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic through a message of Christian hope and compassion. The stated mission: To strengthen the international Christian response; mobilize church, government, and corporate resources; and develop a unified plan to defeat HIV/AIDS.

When the United Nations Security Council held its first meeting of the 21st century, its concern was not nuclear war or international terrorism, but AIDS. The pandemic threatens not only millions of lives, but global security. Nations, communities, and families have lost the leaders of today and tomorrow. Healthcare systems have been overwhelmed, economies undermined, and schools robbed of both students and teachers.

This is a threat to an entire generation; this is a threat to an entire civilization, said UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

  • 1,800 babies are born infected with HIV each day.
  • 42,000 children die of AIDS each month.
  • 3,000,000 children lose one or both parents to AIDS each year.

Prescription For Hope will encourage and equip Christian organizations and churches for HIV/AIDS ministry, and focus prayer on the worldwide crisis. By involving participants living with HIV/AIDS, such as myself, the conference will raise visibility and openness about the disease as a way of reducing the stigma. Above all, it will call the church worldwide to a Christ-like response to the heartbreaking faces of AIDS.

I am convinced God will use the Prescription For Hope conference to help the church worldwide respond to the AIDS crisis with scriptural truth and the compassion of Jesus Christ. I heartily endorse this effort, said Dr. Bill Bright, Founder, Campus Crusade for Christ.

To each of you who gave so generously, thus enabling me to attend Prescription For Hope...Thank You and God Bless You. Jesus Christ preached the Gospel and showed compassion to the suffering. As His disciples, we should respond to the AIDS crisis by following His example. Indeed, I may be the one traveling to Washington DC but, as I have said many times...Together, we have, we are, and we will continue to make a difference in the Name of Jesus. Please look for my full report on the conference in our March update.

Gratefully Redeemed,

Pastor Phillip Lee

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS

AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.

We invite churches, companies, ministries, corporations, individuals, and the entire City of Bakersfield to join with us in caring. Offer your support by donating the below listed items.
