November 2001 Highlights
Dear Friends,
The Bible teaches that God not only takes care of our past, He transforms our present and assures our future. Scripture says that at the Cross God smashed the iron doors which Satan had used to imprison us. God Himself has entered our dark cell and holds out His hand to us, encouraging us to walk with Him into the glorious light of freedom and change.
Coming out of homosexuality requires deep emotional healing and a total restructuring of a persons identity. Even with deliverance, there will still be much to do. Why? Because deliverance does not solve relationship problems, it does not bring about any character development, it does not renew a persons mind, and it cannot take the place of a good relationship with God. Deliverance performs one necessary function...it removes a negative influence from a persons life, aiding the person to continue, unhindered, with the normal process of Christian growth.
On September 10, 2001, thirteen men entered in to our Moving On Discipleship Series, to help them resolve same-gender attractions. The primary goal of the series is to help men discover the loving, powerful presence of God who is there on behalf of their struggle. Thirteen men, ranging in age from 20 years to 54 years old, coming from various churches and denominations, displaying various levels of spiritual maturity, some having habitually practiced the gay lifestyle, while others have only battled feelings and temptations, never giving into the desires of the flesh. Ultimately, each man shares the same goal...to be free, live free and remain free from homosexuality.
Was the power of homosexuality to enslave the believer broken at the Cross? Those who suppose that Jesus only lived and died and rose again in order to provide forgiveness of sins for His people, are making Him only half a Savior. C. H. Spurgeon once said...the fact is, that believers are in a state of conflict, but not in a state of condemnation; and that at the very time when the conflict is the hottest, the believer is still justified. In life, in death, in time, in eternity, there is no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus.
Generally speaking, the church has not been there for the gay person seeking a way out. Without hearing a message of love, encouragement and support from the church and/or a testimony from someone who has been there and has been changed, the person attempting change on their own will usually give up, thinking it is impossible like they say. His Way Out Ministries and numerous other Exodus International Ministries, bring the message that it is not helpful to the homosexual person to either endorse his sin or reject him/her as a person, rather, the Church must provide the new way and the new lifestyle that will replace and push out the old sinful patterns of life.
Change requires that a person learn new ways of thinking and acting, new responses to old temptations. During our Moving On Series, some of the areas we turn our attention to are:

The Reality That Change Is Born Out of Brokenness!
The power to change is not in knowledge of our works, the power is all in our relationship with God. But seek first His Kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given you as well (Matthew 6:33).
For each of the 13 MEN...the weapons of the warfare they wage are spiritual, not flesh empowered. They have been supplied by the life, death and resurrection of our Savior. As each man learns to use the weapons Christ has provided, they each overcome the enemy of their souls.
Each man is not fighting for future victory, but to embrace more fully Christs accomplished victory already won for them at the Cross. By faith, each man states...Thank you, Lord, that you have already smashed the power of homosexuality at the Cross!

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS
AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.
