Appeal for Support by Pastor Robert L. Kuyper

April 25, 2001

Dear Friends,

Last month, you received a letter from our ministry telling you of the extreme need we had for more donations to keep our much needed services going here in Bakersfield. His Way Out Ministries continues to reach those who are struggling with homosexuality, families and friends impacted with homosexual family members as well as those stricken with AIDS.

I am sure you agree that this is a needed and vital ministry in our community.

The good news is that we received more than $4,300 in response to that letter in one time giving. We thank God for your generous response to the needs of our community for Christian ministry. We praise God for allowing this ministry to continue.

However, this is not enough to keep up our present level of service. Therefore, the Board of His Way Out Ministries on April 24, had to make some hard decisions. We have had two full time persons in our ministry, our Executive Director, Phillip Lee and our Administrative Assistant, Nancy Schultz. So far this year, we have a deficit of more than $5,000. This cannot continue.

Therefore, we regretfully decided to release our Administrative Assistant. We know this will affect the women that she has worked with. We are saddened by this decision, but we also know that it is necessary.

Phillip Lee will need to pick up some of these administrative services. We still depend on many volunteer group leaders and teachers to continue to carry out the ministry. It will be necessary to restrict our ministry right now to persons struggling with homosexuality. This is Phillip Lee's calling, and we support him in that. No one else is doing this in Bakersfield, and we feel it is first priority. Heterosexuals with sexual problems do have other resources to which they can be referred.

Again we praise God for your response. We are committed to continuing this important service. Your generous giving is still needed. Feel free to ask questions and get further information. If you would like a speaker for your church or organization, we will be glad to send someone to explain our ministry.

Finally keep us in prayer in this time of transition. The devil singles out ministries like this for special attack in these times of great immorality. Please do not forget to pray.

Thank you again for your support.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Robert L. Kuyper
Trinity United Methodist Church, Bakersfield, CA
Member of the His Way Out Board

"Moving On"

Coming This July!

Moving On, an interdenominational Christ-centered support group for men struggling with same-sex attractions.

Although one need not be a Christian to benefit from Moving On, a primary goal of the series is to help men discover the loving, powerful presence of God who is there on behalf of their struggle. Embracing His love in the roots, the compulsions, the self-perceptions and the relationships that make the struggle is the key to freedom from homosexuality.

IT'S ABOUT LIFE:
Food Ministry to Those Impacted by AIDS

AIDS profoundly impacts one's life whether that person has been infected by it or they are a family member or a friend of someone who has. The social stigmas, fears and especially the "aloneness" associated with AIDS makes it oppressive to live with. "IT'S ABOUT LIFE" is a crucial part of His Way Out Ministries. Because His Way Out Ministries is committed to compassionately communicating God's heart through a caring Christian community, His Way Out Ministries will be a receiving house for non-perishable food items. This will assist those with AIDS to maintain a balanced diet and good nutrition. Two major considerations in food donations for folks with AIDS are speed and ease of preparation. An appetite sometimes doesn't last long and the item has to be readily accessible and speedily prepared for the patient to be able to enjoy it.

We invite churches, companies, ministries, corporations, individuals, and the entire City of Bakersfield to join with us in caring. Offer your support by donating the below listed items.
